Words of Worship Enhance Hymnal

The Extra-Musical Worship Resources Committee members share a deep love for the scripture and for the words that congregations speak and contemplate together in worship. The Committee's task over the past year has been to gather materials that will be interspersed throughout the hymnal, serving to enrich congregational worship, enhance hymn singing, and engage the individual worshiper with scripture, tradition, and current expressions of faith.

The Committee, chaired by the Rev. Alicia Walker, Associate Pastor of Music and Worship, Peachtree Baptist Church in Atlanta, has developed readings and litanies that draw from the revelation of God's word and offer opportunities for response from God's people. The members have designed the format to provide depth as well as flexibility to congregations and worship planners who seek fresh ways to tell the Gospel story.

There also will be supplemental material through the Hymnal's online component, including, but not limited to, personal devotionals and worship models.
